Rodeo

Some small-town fairs feature rodeo events, where animals are used for entertainment.

At this event, a traveling rodeo from Texas demonstrated to the audience how to properly terrorize a calf. Frightened young calves were chased, thrown to the ground, and roped as the crowd watched.

Some cheered while others winced or looked away, made visibly uncomfortable by what they were witnessing.

As more people become aware of the sentience of nonhuman animals, these events raise serious questions about the use of animals, of fear and force for entertainment.

Causing suffering to another is not entertaining or strong.

Strength is measured by what we do to protect those who are smaller, more vulnerable, or unable to defend themselves. Not by how we can use or exploit them for our entertainment.
