Cows Arriving for Slaughter

Toronto

After moving from the city to a more rural area, I began documenting farmed animals around my community, at auctions, and at a small scale slaughterhouse near my home. Since 2012, I’ve been organizing regular Toronto Cow Save vigils for the cows at St. Helen’s slaughterhouse where I first looked into the eyes of a cow and witnessed his killing in my teens many years ago. (See my blog for more on this.) Since then, I’ve looked into the eyes of countless victims here; each one a unique sentient being whose life was as precious as our own and deserving of having their story told. I strive to capture their uniqueness and individualism in my photography to encourage others to open their hearts and minds, and to help them. I wish for everyone to look into their eyes.
