Bearing Witness
Whether sharing who I witness through my camera lens, or organizing to bring others to bear witness in person, bringing these hidden victims of our blind choices is my life’s mission. Beginning animal activism in my teens, and then many years later as a founding member of the Animal Save Movement and co-founder of Toronto Cow Save, I’ve been organizing and attending vigils, and documenting the victims and the activists since 2011.
Prior to this, my son and I would regularly visit a local, rural slaughterhouse to bear witness, to document, and to give love and food to the animals who were trapped there.
Bearing witness to the individuals who are about to have their lives violently taken is a life-changing experience that breaks down our wall of social conditioning. It allows us to see the animals that we humans use, exploit, and eat as sentient individuals who have the same desire as we do to live free from harm and suffering.
